We Like What We're Hearing 1/12/07 at 5:04:46 PM
— Jen (Rude) Endres, Academic Adviser Health & Natural Sciences Student Community
HNS has seen the vast majority of NAS coming through our doors intending to pursue the health sciences. Compared to seasons past, more students are coming prepared to discuss a "Plan B" option (many also already have a viable option in mind), and a few are even beginning to tell us that they would prefer to start at, or even a little below, their ability level prior to beginning the long chem and math sequences. In years past, it has been a long conversation with the student who has not had math in four years that they may not be able to simply continue where they left off years ago. Our NAS students are coming to us as better prepared and educated new UMTC students.
In between O/R time, we have seen a sprinkling of continuing students coming in to discuss possible major changes and the occasional procrastinator student who has not yet registered at all. Though we've been trying to reach our students early to impress upon them the importance of registering in the queue, there always seem to be a few who miss the message. We're continuing to think of innovative ways to reach the seemingly unreachable.
We have also been keeping busy setting dates for our spring programming. Mark your calendars (and please let your students know!) about the following. Some are the usual spring suspects in our lineup, others are new. Take a look and contact us if you have questions!
