— Bobby Bryant, Academic Adviser
Social Sciences Student Community

With O/R and the first couple weeks of the semester past, Social Sciences is starting to slow down (and our stress levels drop with it). We’re still adjusting to having just one peer adviser; at times the front desk looks lonely without our recently departed peers. On the bright side we’re looking forward to the WCIDWAMI Social Sciences event on Feb. 26. This event should be a big success as we open students’ eyes to the idea that there’s more to your career than just what you major in (most history majors are relieved that they don’t have to become high school history teachers, historians, or talking heads on the History Channel – lucrative though that last one may be).

Stephanie has completed the African-American & African Studies major declaration form to accompany the revised departmental, rather than interdisciplinary, major program. Stephanie will also be representing Pride @ Work, the University’s GLBTA employee group, when she gives a presentation later this month at the Midwest BLGTA College Conference. She is also excited to be among the first group of mentors selected for the University’s GLBTA mentor pilot program. Bobby has recently discovered the usefulness of keys in his desk drawer when one is on the other side of a locked office door. Charles is enjoying his two classes this term, though that may change as the end of the term approaches, and Madhu is eagerly watching the construction of the CSOM addition — and with it her new Econ Major advising office.

Be sure to refer students to our Upcoming Events section on our website not only for our WCIDWAMI, but also for programs related to law school and employment opportunities.
