Scanning...Scanning...

—Lonna Riedinger, Student Support Services Associate
Student Information Office

It's been three years since we began imaging student records for the spring 2005 admits. If the amount of scanning hasn't been increasing geometrically, it certainly feels like it. Last year at this time, 50 percent of our students had electronic records; with the addition of the spring 08 admits, we're at nearly 75 percent.  Next fall we'll pass the 90 percent mark. We are scanning nearly 3,000 pages per month—4,000 during peak periods—and the number is increasing. This year we've had a hard time keeping up with the demand but we pushed through and are nearly up-to-date as of this writing.

And help has arrived. We're happy to welcome two new student employees, to fill the gap left by Niki Korth's study aboard (we hear Czech is a hard language to learn) and to give us a much needed assist on the scanning. Faustina Boa-Amponsem is a freshman in CLA working toward a Pharmacy program. You'll see her at the front desk if you stop by (and of course she'll be scanning and linking). Elizabeth O'Rourke is a freshman in CSOM working on a triple major in Finance, International Business, and Spanish. Say "Hi" when you see her on the messenger runs or visit SIO to see her linking and scanning.
