March Madness 3/29/07 at 2:20:55 PM
— Duane Smith, Community Coordinator Society & Culture Student Community
March madness was evident this month. March came in like a lion, with the University closing in midafternoon on March 2 because of a memorable snow storm. The month seems to be going out like a lamb, with record high temperatures earlier this week. In between, Society and Culture staff said so long to students leaving for spring break and welcomed them back on their return. We’ve also been grabbing some vacation time for ourselves, here and there. Professional and administrative staff had their annual performance reviews: we have to scramble to get our review materials ready, but it’s a good occasion to look back at the accomplishments of the past year and plan ahead for the coming year. And Daylight Saving Time came earlier this year than ever before; setting the clocks ahead in mid-March makes winter’s departure seem all the more overdue.
During the past month, Society and Culture staff have participated in professional development sessions, including a presentation sponsored by the Aurora Center relating to sexual-assault issues, a workshop on stress management conducted by the Center for Spirituality and Healing, and a panel presentation about issues veterans face when returning to the University. There were outreach activities as well: Karen Crouch, Maureen Kelly Neerland, and Duane Smith represented Society and Culture at the CLA Open House on Saturday, March 24, and Emily Mraz and Duane Smith participated in the CLA Major Fair on March 28.
