"One Country, One Village, One Project" 5/1/08 at 12:44:00 PM
-- Sue Hunter-Weir, Coordinator Arts Student Community
Every now and again a student does something so
extraordinary that it deserves everyone’s attention. In case you missed it, check out the story
about CLA student, Katie Nelson, on the U’s web site: http://www1.umn.edu/umnnews/Feature_Stories/One_village_at_a_time.html
Katie is a Global Studies major (Jane Anderson is the lucky
adviser) who is out to change the world starting with one village in Kenya. Her project encompasses all of the learning
goals for students articulated in the advising syllabus and then some. It also provides an opportunity for student
support staff to actively “support and challenge students to achieve their
goals.” In a year where advertising costs
for the presidential election are predicted to exceed $3 billion, it’s nice to
know that a $2.00 contribution to a worthy cause can still make a
difference. Check out the web site that
Katie manages at http://www.nafulafoundation.org and prepare to be
amazed.
