Sugar, Llamas the Antidote to Freshman Indecision! 6/24/05 at 3:13:44 PM
— Sue Hunter Weir, Community Coordinator
We're finally off to a roaring start with orientation, which is what comes of having two days where the majority of students are interested in theatre. After a somewhat quiet start, the students have become considerably rowdier. And it turns out that our earlier, quieter students were less "undeclared" than they appeared to be on (non)paper; a lot of interest in the visual arts, dance and music. So far, we've gone through six bags of Starbursts and three bags of Hershey's Kisses and several coloring book pages of llamas. We'll have a whole new gallery of llama pictures going up soon. We've also discovered that if students consume enough sugar first thing in the morning, we can get them to agree to just about any of our recommendations. What do Friends of the Cemetery and In the Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theatre have in common? We're collaborating on an installation for the theatre's upcoming production, "Excavating Lake Street." Don't worry, though...excavating will not be allowed in the cemetery. The show is about Lake Street's history, "from a path for deer and buffalo and trade route for native people, to a bustling commercial district for a never-ending wave of immigrants." The performance includes site-specific installations, a tour, and performances. The $15 ticket includes food, live music and dancing. (The last three activities will *not* involve the cemetery for reasons that should be obvious). For more information, check out www.hobt.org or call 612-721-2535. Or give me a call...
