News from the Attic 7/25/08 at 10:14:47 AM
—Pat Amo, Academic Adviser McGuire Academic Program
I am getting used to our new office here in Wesbrook. I am so happy to finally have a modicum of privacy when I meet with my students. And it is a true delight to turn my chair and actually see a tree through a window. Imagine that. I actually know when it’s raining now. In our old space in Johnston’s basement I knew it was raining only if my students came in with wet umbrellas! Ah, the good life.
MAP is fortunate to have been tapped to share a space with Access to Success (ATS). Space is at such a premium here at the U; we all need more room. My students who have been stopping in all summer, with or without appointments, also like the new space. Now, if we can just find storage space here in Wesbrook and clear all the MAP extras out of the copy room in Johnston so that Student Services can have their space back! Sorry, we’re trying!
I have completed file reviews on all MAP students in all colleges. Each student gets a personal, individual e-mail from yours truly. I tell each student that ‘yes, your adviser enjoys bugging you, even in the summer.’ I get some pretty witty responses.
I am in the midst of early probation appointments. We have no new McGuire cohort this year. It makes me sad; I really enjoy the activity and excitement of freshmen orientation and registration. However, I was able to assist in the ATS freshman registration, so I got my quota of new, shiny, excited faces!
I hope everyone is enjoying this splendid summer.
