Internship Class Is a Go!
11/5/09 at 1:07:47 PM

—Robin Stubblefield, Career Coordinator
Career and Community Learning Center (CCLC)

We just received permission to continue our new internship reflection class as a permanent course! This is our 1-credit class called "Internship Reflection: Making Meaning of Your Experience" (ID 3208).

This semester, the first run of the class is going very well. Students are engaged in a wide variety of activities, including online coursework and projects at their internship sites. Recently the students were asked to seek supervisor feedback about their performance and their acclimation to the organization. This assignment helped them deepen their internship experience, as it guided them to process how others perceive them compared to how they perceive themselves. They also reflected on the types of behavior that contribute to being viewed as professional.

Due to the tough economy, some of the students have been exposed to restructuring at their sites. This provided an opportunity to reflect on the ways restructuring or layoffs can impact an organization's employees and its work environment. For some students, it has meant transitioning to a new supervisor and having to adapt to change very quickly.

We look forward to continuing to provide the Internship Reflection class. It's an online course open to sophomores, juniors, and seniors in any college at the U of M Twin Cities. To register, students must be doing an internship during the semester in which they take the class.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact our office at cclc@umn.edu or 612-624-7577. We appreciate your help in promoting this class to students!
