Students Resonate with Their Fellows' Experience 3/17/05 at 4:41:23 PM
— Jennifer Rude, Academic Adviser
As HNS wishes Princess well in returning to Metro State University this week, we are overjoyed to welcome Bobby Bryant to the staff. Bobby is our "temporary Christine" and, after many long days of training, will help us by covering some walk-in and taking checkback appointments. Bobby comes to us from the History department and has been a fun addition to the office. On March 2 John Mabey held a highly informative workshop with Sarah Smith from the Learning Abroad Center on international opportunities for science and health science students. The highlight of the session had to be the two students John and Sarah brought in to speak about their experiences with the MSID program. Students hearing from other students, especially relating to travel abroad, always resonates well. Among appointments, planning for programs, and steady walk-in traffic, "Plan B" has been the focus in the office lately. Letters of acceptance or denial from health science programs will be sent at the end of this month and we're preparing for the onslaught of confusion, tears, and feelings of hopelessness. In an effort to assist students who receive the "skinny envelope," the HNS advisers, along with Paul Timmins in CCLC, are developing a workshop on alternative health science careers to be held on April 19. To supplement the program, John Mabey is diligently working on a web module offering more breadth and depth on the careers than we will be able to go into during the session. Check out the PDF's already up on our website! We hope to have a comprehensive list of careers by the end of April. Finally, we are looking forward to the upcoming edition of the Curriculum Integration monograph this May in which Cris Swanson, Jim Galvin, and Bill Solheim will be published.
